Coffee break with our partners:

Helsinki Business Hub

Health Capital Helsinki is building the greatest health capital – and in doing that, collaborating with various impactful organisations. Meet our partners is an interview series introducing you to our Finnish and international partners. Before we dive into all our external partners, we want to familiarise you with our own home and background organisation, Helsinki Business Hub*.

*As of 1 January 2022, Helsinki Business Hub is Helsinki Partners, a city marketing, investment and talent attraction company owned by the City of Helsinki.

Helsinki Business Hub exists to enable international businesses to flourish in the capital city of Finland and assist foreign companies to connect with the local ecosystem to find business opportunities in Helsinki. Helsinki Business Hub’s work helps us at Health Capital Helsinki to provide more versatile services for our clients.

Helsinki Business Hub and Health Capital Helsinki are like twins with aligned targets, and we work on shared projects daily. Let’s sit down with and introduce you to Helsinki Business Hub’s Maria Lavonen and Linda Emelianov – our teamsters and colleagues specialised in health!

Helsinki Business Hub

What: The international trade and investment promotion agency for Helsinki

For who: Foreign companies that want to set up their business, grow, and develop in Helsinki, and international investors looking for quality dealflow.

What is Helsinki Business Hub and what do you do in the field of health?

Maria: We help people to connect to Finland and its capital region – from the initial consideration to establishing and expanding their business. We provide them with the right information and contacts and identify the best growth opportunities for their business. Whether people are looking for the best location, co-operation with Finnish companies, deal flow from Finland, or opportunities for expansion in Helsinki, we are here to help them. We drive on impact. The results of our work are seen in economic growth and new jobs in Helsinki.

Maria, what does a business advisor at Helsinki Business Hub do?

Maria: As a business advisor, I offer tailor-made services for international companies and investors and help with connecting to the health ecosystem. We also make people’s life easier when they are starting their business in the Helsinki area.

Linda, what does your work as venture advisor consist of?

Linda: Venture advisor at Helsinki Business Hub helps foreign angel, VC, and CVC investors in finding the most interesting Finnish startups to invest in. We do this the old-fashioned way: by packaging hand-selected deal flow and delivering it through regular catch-up calls and emails. When the investor and the startup are both interested in each other we connect them.

Helsinki Business Hub is targeting foreign companies. What is your message to them in a nutshell?

Maria: Helsinki has a growing health ecosystem with top research, healthcare, stable and safe society, great talent pool, interesting local and global health companies. This is a great place to invest for R&D and new projects.

A successful company creates more jobs, innovation, and welfare. This is an absolute win-win situation for the foreign owners and Finland.

What is the best part of your work? When do you feel that you have succeeded in your work?

Maria: Connecting the right people to start new projects and seeing new health innovations grow makes me happy. Also, what motivates me is knowing that the work we do has an economic impact as well as the possibility to improve the future of health and patient care globally.

Linda: I enjoy talking with entrepreneurs and investors since I get to learn something new from them every day. Finding a match between a foreign investor and a Finnish startup is always fun too.
