The universities in Helsinki and Espoo have a strong focus on various aspects of the pandemic and are actively involved in collaborative networks of experts working on Covid-19. They are continuously updating their websites with new information.
HUS Helsinki University Hospital
The largest hospital in Finland, HUS Helsinki University Hospital, is conducting a number of research projects related to Covid-19 disease. In addition, HUS is involved in several coronavirus studies led by University of Helsinki, Finnish institute for health and welfare and other partners.
Many of the Covid-19 studies conducted in Finland utilise biobank samples donated by voluntary citizens. The research benefiting from Helsinki Biobank samples is listed in the link above (in Finnish).
Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence, FCAI
AI and machine learning methods can help tackle the coronavirus epidemic in many ways. Researchers at FCAI have started several research projects that aim to mitigate the health, societal, and economic effects of the Covid-19 outbreak.
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
VTT, together with MeVac – Meilahti Vaccine Research Center, is developing a testing method based on detection of viral antigens for the Covid-19-virus. The goal of the rapid test is to provide healthcare professionals with an accurate, fast, and resource-efficient method to detect coronavirus infections early.
