ADESANTE Ltd harnesses virtual reality technologies for health care applications. The company develops various virtual reality implementations for operation simulation, layout planning of hospital premises, as well as mental health services.
The company focuses on the improvement of patient experience by means of innovative technologies.
The Clinical Operation Simulator (COS) produces a hologram from health care imaging results, which can then be viewed and manipulated using virtual reality glasses. In this way, it is possible to examine the target three-dimensionally and to view it in cross-sections, among other functions.
Imaging data from various platforms such as TT, MRI and PET, can be combined with the virtual model. Imaging data does not change when viewed through virtual glasses.
COS improves the interpretability of the current patient data. Complete 3D examination of the images is also faster and more detailed.
“Virtual reality provides a novel way for the visualization and manipulation of digital information. Viewing imaging results in virtual reality allows a new viewpoint from which to inspect the structures of blood vessels, tumors or fractures, for instance. In the future, it will also be feasible to design a detailed course of surgery by utilizing virtual reality. Subsequently, it is likely to have a significant role in the evolution of medical digitalization. Finland has a chance to be at the forefront of virtual reality technology and it is great that IT professionals and operators in the health care field are so eagerly developing virtual reality tools for medicine”, says medical advisor Joel Holmén from ADESANTE Ltd.
The simulator developed by ADESANTE is among the first virtual reality implementations for operation simulation in the world. According to ADESANTE’s CEO Pasi Porramo, the pilot carried out in collaboration with HUS exceeded all expectations and they intend to continue testing their technology in additional hospitals.
“Our aim is to make the product available to all surgeons in Finland. There is a growing interest outside of Finland too, so we are also aiming at entering the global market”, Porramo concludes.
